The Story

I spent many years at sea, looking across the horizon to see distant lands and strange peoples. They looked back at me with similar feelings; a mutual perpetual state of misunderstanding and fear.

From above, we watched, and hoped, and strove to achieve peace amongst the infighting.

“Although the fighting had been going on for centuries, the War had just begun. All the work we’ve done to achieve lasting peach has been sabotaged. I can’t fathom the voices echoing within the minds of the traitors responsible for what has transpired. And I expect none of you could either, because to understand would be to admit that we are not of sound mind and judgement, that we do not believe in our shared goals and vision, and that we accept defeat as a viable solution to this conflict. I now see, as clearly as through the void of space, that there is true evil in this world, and it has infected our ranks. And I vow, here and now, to root out and destroy the cancer before it masticates.”

“I hope this letter will find it’s way to you, my love. I think of you during the day and all night long. The work is brutal but we are making progress towards - well, I don’t want to worry you with the details, but pray I will have a story to tell our grandchildren one day. With love from afar,

Twas the luck of the cat, Benny, the ship’s mascot, that saved the day.
